WORLD AS ONE - By: Almaz Berhane

What is beautiful is that

I am the world

and the world is me

Marvelous!

I look at running hills and soft grass

I look at city lights and rain reflecting off of glass

that is me too!

I look at my friends, dressed up for new years or in any casual form

We are all one, and by far we are the most dazzling existence!

PRAISE BE!

To the wonder of the world and myself!

What a beautiful life we all are, in the senses

We are one!

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

For my philosophy class I have recently finished the novel Sophie's World (for anyone interested in philosophy, this is a large but wonderful starting point) and this poem explores some of the MANY subjects of philosophy in the book. I will say that most of the book is a fever dream in my mind but does that not add to the allure?

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

I didn't really have a thought/writing process for this one. I sort of just write what I want to convey or the emotions I feel, edit, then order lines and stanzas until I read the poem to myself and it feels *right*

Why did you choose to write this poem?

Sophie's World is brimming with so much poetic inspiration, I needed to express that. Philosophy and poetry together is just an elite combo.

Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?

Finding inspiration can be difficult at times, try everything! Read a book, watch a show, talk with a friend, listen to a song, make your own music! Art is a great place to start.
