The Faded Star - By: Nithyasri Vedagiri

I was blind to unforeseen circumstances,

Now we stand here at the post-mortem,

Lost in the melody of melancholy,

Grieving the loss of our star,

The sun who believed in me more than I did,

Time is not something to be taken lightly for it is the mistake that led her to her grave,

Fell so innocently a victim to the jarring hands of the demons,

Now the swings in the playground around the block,

Rock silently against the urging wind... creak creak creak

Fading into the distance,

I've lost my memory of her face

Take me back, I beg of yo-

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

In this poem, I speak of the loss of innocence and of my inner child that my teenage years brought, as time swept me off my feet. Simply that, how my own curiosity and the world killed off the innocent child and turned her into a precocious child struggling to survive in her own house, which was never a home.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

I was not really thinking; I let the words bleed on the paper as I put all the emotions I felt during the mental breakdown I had into words in my head. I believe I was trying to see my younger self as the guiding star because she had so many dreams for when she grew up (that got crushed because of the way the world is, parents, etc), which is me now, but I do not have any of that hope or those dreams now.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I just felt many people may relate, as so many struggle to get out of bed every morning, but still do because if a 7-year-old saw them, they would be disappointed.
