Ponds shiver beneath the ice,
whispers of frozen paradise.
Oh, so daring, with much vigilance,
he crawls on the ice with a frozen dance.
From climbing a slippery slide,
to surfing down a mountainous tide.
Ice protests, in bumps on his ride,
as he fumbles forward, in frosty freight.
Caught in the pond's icy grip,
where he thought the ice was firm, no slip,
but with a quiet scream, a gentle slash,
SPLASH.
In the wrath of chill,
he had thought,
ever so shaken, ever so still:
“Oh, how terribly fun this had been.”
Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.
This poem is a process of a kid trying to climbing onto a pond in winter. It tells people directly to not climb onto ponds in winter, but I has a meaning of things not always being the same on the outside.
Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.
I was walking outside and saw a frozen lake, put my foot on it, nothing, but when I put my who body in it, I fell right in. After seeing others going down the same road too, I wrote this poem.
Why did you choose to write this poem?
On 2023 December 17, a girl along with her sister had fallen into Lake Vermont. She and her sister thought they were walking on rigid ice but they fell right through, and went into the icy cold lake water. A state trooper had to plunge into the water and save the girls, and ambulance assistance was needed, too. This instance had inspired “Winter’s Perils”.
