Why do bad things happen to good people? - By: Stella Z

Why do people do the things they do?

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Who is there for you at your lowest?

Who wraps your wrists in bandages when you let the shiny blade glide amongst your wrists?

We're good people, why do we feel the way we do?

Why did you go and let that new pencil sharpener you bought for school cut your thighs at 13,

Now scarred for life.

How is life able to feel like a nightmare in a dream?

How can people be happy when they have never felt real sadness, real loneliness?

We're good people, right?

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

It's about self harm and sadness, maybe even depression. And asking why do things like this happen to good people? Why do good people feel this way, you're a good person why don't you deserve to feel happiness?

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

I honestly just started with something never expecting it to turn out so dark.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I want this poem to be something teens can relate to, even though I really hope they don't.

Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?

Even though it doesn't feel like it right now, there will be a ray of sunshine at the end of your darkest days. You'll relapse and feel like shit over and over again, but you'll eventually find the rainbow.
