Untitled - By: Aadya Benipuri

A home-made poison

A poison as such,

To damage an enemy.

A poison that does not kill…

-but who would make such a thing?

No one has heard it,

Not a soul has seen it.

No one but a mere child.

For what was this toxin’s name?

None other than

The Killer’s Flower.

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

The main idea I had for this poem was how the best -or deadliest things came from even a place of pure innocence. Childhood. How age cannot define good or evil. And how villains-despite the popular saying- aren’t always made.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

It came from a memory I had from last year, and I thought of actual revenge. Petty revenge. And how I will not let myself be as awful as the others who allow themselves to. Poems have been my way to escape from reality, and the cruelties in the real world. Because, on the pages of my journal, I can be a lot more then I am.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I chose to write this poem as a way to express myself.I also get very bored. But wanted to make a point. I will admit my boredom makes me do odd things but I have fallen in love with poetry and think this website will help me with this

Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?

I myself am one, but if there was one thing. It would be not to be afraid. Like my poems. I’ve had at least 5 people say they are too dark and weird, but here I am. Sharing this with the world. And I have no regrets! So don’t care what others think- even if that is an overdone quote, it’s true!
