the snowflakes fall
softly
slowly
sweetly
recalling a time
when
they pounded the earth in great, fat drops of liquid
a force to be reckoned with.
but now
all they do is float
sleepily
sorrowfully
silently.
Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.
The main theme of this poem is how our voices can be silenced when we stop trying to be heard.
Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.
I don't have much to say about this, because it was kind of a spontaneous, five-minute poem that I was suddenly compelled to write, but I've always liked vague writing with potential for multiple hidden meanings/interpretations. I also like the style of alliteration I used that has separate lines/indentations for each adverb. Other than that, I don't really have any notable things to say on my thought process because it all came to me at once and I just wrote from the heart!
Why did you choose to write this poem?
I chose to write this poem because I often feel silenced and that my ideas aren't valued. This piece helps bring clarity to my feelings. Also, snowfall makes me thoughtful and I wrote this while it was snowing.
Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?
Don't have any doubts about how your writing will turn out, and just write from the heart about anything you're passionate about! I often feel dissuaded from writing because I'm worried the final result won't be good, and while it does sometimes end up making me cringe, it can also turn out really well. Also, as long as you care about what you're writing about, it can always be edited and fine-tuned into something amazing.
