The Ache of My Aloneness - By: Zoe Kent

I feel so alone,

a painful undertow.

I just wanna know,

how it feels to glow.

To truly be known,

when you're all alone.

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

The main idea of my poem "The ache of my Aloneness" is feeling like you have nobody there for you to guide you. The meaning of my poem is a deep feeling of loneliness. The lines "I just wanna know, how it feels to glow", is a meaning that you want to have someone or that your jealous of someone. Or you feel like you have no talent and you just wanna feel like it. This poem shows a true understanding about all of those feelings.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

My thought process while writing this poem was how i wanted to find one main topic and speak about it. The topic for this poem is loneliness and how i wrote the poem was i brainstormed words that went along with the feeling or words in the poem. I then found rhyming words and started to write my poem. I edited it a lot and eventually, It became the poem" The Ache of my Aloneness."

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I chose to write this poem because I had a lot of emotions inside of me and the easiest thing for me to do was write all of my feelings out. More specifically, poetry. With poetry, you can write about anything that you want. You can chose any rhymes that fit with how you feel, or even none at all. When I first write a poem, I start with the main topic or feeling I want the poem to be about. Then, I brainstorm a lot of words that fit with the topic of the poem. I like to rhyme mine to have it make sense and to have it tell a story other people can understand and relate to.

Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?

Some tips I have to share with youth writers who may read this poem is to try to get people to be interested to your poem. For example, have a title that makes sense to the poem. Another example is have some lines that have a person reading might go "Oh wow that was meaningful to me" or have some lines that make the reader wanna keep reading until the end.
