Praise the world
And her defiant daughters
Praise the world
As she lives on
Praise the earth
Her lands and waters
Waver she might
Yet carries strong
Praise to the girls
The silent and many
Praise all the struggles
The warrior hearts
Praise to the beaten and
Forced down and any
Girl who lives life
In glorious art
Praise to the movements
Growing. Building
Praise that the end of the old world comes
Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.
This poem to me, is a reminder. A sort of manifesto.
It reminds me that we are all connected, through the earth, and through each other.
This poem is also about how we need to give recognition to the people (mostly women) who are just fighting to get through the day, and who are trying their very absolute best to live on. Every one is worthy, everyone is beautiful, and everyone deserves to be praised.
Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.
I wrote this poem on one fateful international women's day, when I looked around and saw that no one was doing anything to celebrate it, not even the women. No one was taking the time to even acknowledge the day and what it means. The concept of feminism is confusing, because while we are supposed to be all equals, and all be the same, we are also all different and worthy of individual and collective celebration.
I wrote this poem, so that even if no one ever sees it, or I even forget I wrote it, I know deep down that I took the time to celebrate women.
Why did you choose to write this poem?
To prove a point to myself, that I AM capable, and deserve praise.
Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?
There are so many rules that govern our lives. Once in a while, we all need to say, to hell with the rules, and just do whatever the heck we want. (I mean societal rules, obviously dont break the legal ones).
