The gloom set into my mind as I

Slowed down because

I wasn’t good enough

I run away because I can’t

I’m not enough and

It’s not fair

And you’re there

Running by my side

Slower and makes me smile

I run with you and we talk

Ask about our days

Soft smiles and cross country conversations

Splashing in puddles

Laughing in the wind

You promised me it’d be okay

So we run into the distance

Side by side, stride by stride

And I wonder

What does it look like from behind?

Does it look like what I want it to look like?

Or just a muddy back and a blue sweater?
