Love - By: Linda Chau

In Ho Chi Min's vibrant streets, where dreams take flight

Riding on my bike, blue as Nha Trang's waters

Greeted with the warmth of Ho Chi Minh's sun so bright

I find solace in this bustling, radiant light

In bowls of pho, bún bò huế, bún thịt nướng

A tapestry of spices, a familiar taste

Around the table, we gather, hearts entwined

In Ho Chi Minh City, our bonds defined

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

The poem is about memories and how I'm proud of my culture and family.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

When I get an idea of what I am going to write about, I write the first line and then the rest just pours out.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I wanted to write this poem to be a reminder of a part of me that I used to be ashamed of, that I now cherish. I also want others, who maybe hide that vague memory of themselves in their ancestry land, to now recognize it and embrace it.

Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?

Always love yourself and never hide a part of yourself simply because its different from others. That difference is what makes you unique and you should never let someone take that part of you away.
