Gazing The World - By: Karman Kaur

Gazing is a funny word, yet,

It holds the meaning of looking so fixedly at one thing

I would call that admiration.

I like to gaze at the sky when the sky is clear and blue,

I like city gazing but also moon gazing.

Sunsets and sunrises, when the sky is vividly painted with color.

I like to gaze at the stars and the heavy thick rain droplets that pour from above.

I enjoy gazing at the snow, especially the first snowfall of the season.

Gazing at the ocean where all the voices seem to disappear or

gazing at happiness every time it appears.

There’s something about gazing I’ll never understand.

How when my eyes tend to gaze, it makes my heart feel something instead.

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

Sometimes we get so fixated on what's in front of us that we forgot to see things on a more deeper level. Small things such as looking at the sky might just be that one thing that calms the voices in your head, You might "gaze" at something and not realize that the reason you are looking at it so fixedly is because you find that thing beautiful and in a way it makes you happy; you might not even notice this yourself. This poem is to illustrate the beauty that surrounds us on day-to-day basis and to appreciate it.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

This poem came to me very smoothly. I knew the concept that I wanted it to have and everything else came flooding through. I incorporated things I like to gaze at because it was easier to write and helped allow the poem to flow quite nicely. There's not much else to the writing process but one of my poems that came together very quickly and I am proud of it.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I love nature and when surrounded by it I find myself to be happy. I crave to find beautiful things whether that be a sunset, the ocean, a forest of tall trees because it gives me a sense of hope, that each day we live to experience these experiences. The "small things" in life are what we should live for. Therefore, my saying in "how when my eyes tend to gaze, it makes my heart feel something instead" I mean this in to describe of how weird it that when I look at something I find beautiful it makes my heart feel warm even if I don't realize it does.
