You - By: Anuska Sarkar

some people are like stars. like the sun to a planet unexplored. tied to you inexplicably with something you can’t explain or deny. when someone looks at you as if a moment with them is a speck of moondust? that's not very fair. especially not if they're your star. especially not if a moment with them could stretch out into the eternity of a star's lifespan. a glance at them can keep the milky way swirling, swirling into a whirlpool of stars and specks of sun. the sun i see when golden rays hit his beautiful amber eyes at the exact angle and i see the worlds in the full bloom of a flushing moon. a lot can happen in one of those special moments - the kind with extra seconds that not everyone gets, that the universe seems to dole out sparsely to those who have a sparse count of time. sometimes, i see the universe in his sparkling glance and it feels as if my world might come crashing down onto a galaxy i had never known had existed. it's all in your eyes, all in their majesty which the stars in all their glory could never hope to touch. falling into such that cannot possibly be a universe and yet encapsulates love in a way which i know i will never again feel. so i lay in the hopes of clinging to these flickering memories until the day i lie.

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

This poem discusses the inexplicable connection to a person, as the poet tries to failingly unfurl their emotions.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

This poem is a free verse, meant to describe the the emotions true connections can give rise to. When creating the poem, the only thing I could find that comes close to the vastness love offers is the expanse of the universe.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I wrote it to let others know that foreign emotions can be beautiful, and not everything needs to have a description.
