Untitled - By: Maya Gamez

You’re always gazing at the imperfections of our world, watching as we fall, and how we learn. I close my eyes and I fall into the sky, the reds and pinks of your cheeks, the yellows and reds of your heart. The stars and planets that call you home, the blanket you are to all in the sky. You watch when no one is looking, and you watch when all eyes are on you. You are beautiful, never ending. I don’t want to leave but I’m ready, I fall back down, falling through the different shades of gray, the emotions you lay, the way you describe our history without any names. I open my eyes, and stand up tall, looking up at what I like to call home.

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

The meaning and main idea of this poem is to describe how the sky and your dreams can comfort you even when no one is watching. It's almost as if there's always someone or something watching over you even if you don't know it.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

I felt as I wrote this poem that the feeling of always having the sky to look up too was comforting and maybe other people thought so too which is why I'm deciding to share it. Describing the colours was important because sometimes the sky can be beautiful and other times it can be scary, but it's okay because it will return again. It's almost as if sometimes the sky can have a bad day too.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I chose to write this poem because I had always felt that the sky was a comforting thing to look up to because it's always there watching down on me. Sometimes it will give you a show, and other times it will give you something completely different.
