Not Clingy, Just Unwanted - By: Adeline Leslie

I thought love meant showing up,
Soft “good mornings,” and messy care,
Finding you in crowded halls,
Believing you wanted me there.
But every step I took toward you,
You pushed back twice as far—
“Leave me,” became your anthem,
Like I was noise, not a beating heart.
If longing makes me guilty,
Then yes, I wore the crime—
But love doesn’t beg at doorways
Where someone changed the sign.
You called it “clinging,”
I called it “trying.”
You called it “too much,”
I called it us.
But now I see the truth clearer—
Not that I reached out too tight,
But that I reached out to someone
Who already let go that night.
I wasn’t the storm,
You were the silence.
I wasn’t glue,
You were gone.
So if my presence weighed heavy,
Let this absence set you free—
Because love stopped looking desperate
The moment I stopped looking for you.
Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.
It's basically about how my ex treated me before, so I wrote this poem for him, I didn't exactly tell him this poem yet. So he was avoiding me, telling me to leave every time and brushing me off.
Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.
For me I thought to show him this soon but I didn't get the chance yet to do so.
Why did you choose to write this poem?
To show my ex.
Do you have any tips or anything to share with the youth writers who may be reading this?
Well, I'm also a new poet still but my tip is express your emotions well and have a lovely day.
