Memories - By: Rose Plante

Some memories are meant to be remembered and held tightly.

Others are hidden in the corners of the mind, too painful to recall yet impossible to forget.

These memories would not be missed and are better forgotten, these are the memories I have of you.

You stole my joy a thief in the night and have held it hostage ever since.

Any moment filled with laughter, and hope has been ripped away by you.

You feed off my helplessness and steal my will; my will to hope, my will to dream, and my will to live.

Every shining clear memory is dulled and tainted a a pained crimson that is the blood left by the death of hope.

You know this and you revel in the power it gives you, the power to extinguish my hope and leave me shivering in the cold until any memory of hope and of me has faded to nothing.

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

This poem is about the way the past can haunt you and the pain that trying to move on brings. The way everything reminds you of the one thing you wish to forget until letting it consume you just seems easier.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

My process for writing is finding pockets of time where I feel inspired by a strong emotion and the need to express myself. Writing is an outlet for all the struggles that my life causes me.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I chose to write this poem because of the strong emotions it holds for me and getting this off my chest is better than hiding my pain.
