I Stole From An Angel - Eris Plum

i stole from an angel

her wisdom and her pride

she cried and she cried

i took from the angel

her sense and her fight

she cried and she cried

once more i saw the angel

this time she was hollow

she cried and she cried

but no avail, no mercy

i spied and i spied

i pounced with might

and took the last bit of her light

Please give a detailed explanation about the meaning and main idea of this poem.

This is a poem about the struggle to adapt to a new part of one's self, how one may feel attacked by themselves, by the divine, and how one has to be assertive and eradicate this threat to their existence, not through expelling this new part of themselves, but by dissolving it into their character.

Please explain your writing and thought process regarding this poem.

Sometimes, we take effect from others without asking for it; in other words, new parts are sometimes added to our characters without our consent. Though it's unfair, we must still learn how to cope in such cases, which I've found aren't as unique as one may think. I wrote this poem as a way to cope with something that was non-consensually added to my character.

Why did you choose to write this poem?

I wrote this poem in the midst of a personal existential questioning wherein I deeply felt the need to express myself. Unfortunate circumstances meant that poetry was my only choice.
